RETINOIDS - 7 information
Retinoids are natural or synthetic derivatives of vitamin A, showing structural and/or functional similarities to it. Retinol is a long-chain alcohol that is the basic form of vitamin A, the prototype of all other retinoids. DIVISION OF RETINOIDS If we were to arrange retinoids according to their potency, the order would be as follows: retinoic acid > retinaldehyde > retinol > retinol esters > β-carotene After reaching the keratinocyte cell, retinol is oxidized to retinaldehyde (retinaldehyde) by appropriate enzymes, and this is further oxidized to retinoic acid. HOW RETINOL WORKS Retinoids are fat-soluble, which allows them to penetrate the stratum corneum of the epidermis. and to a small extent they penetrate into the dermis. Reaching the keratinocyte cells, they bind with appropriate receptors, then induce transcription of the appropriate genes. Retinoids stimulate the cellular activity of keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and melanocytes. By interacting with receptors inside cells, they promote their proliferation, strengthen the protective functions of the epidermis, limit transepidermal water loss, protect collagen from degradation and inhibit the activity of metalloproteinases responsible for the degradation of the extracellular matrix. WHO ARE RETINOIDS FOR? Retinoids are widely used in cosmetics, being a strong dermatological agent used in acne, psoriasis and other skin diseases and one of the most effective anti-aging raw materials. Additionally, if there is a demand for counterfeit cosmetics and other goods, then naturally there are people who do not hesitate to take advantage of such demand and organize further counterfeit factories. The dangers of counterfeit cosmetics The expansion of counterfeit cosmetics affects Europe, the US, Russia, Asia, and South American and African countries. This poses a direct threat to public health and to consumers. In addition, this procedure means that honest cosmetic companies whose products are counterfeited have much lower profits. The global cosmetics industry is currently valued at around 700 billion US dollars per year. After the pandemic, consumers are once again interested in makeup brands, and interest in natural cosmetics has also increased. If its packaging differs slightly from the original – it is not a printing error, but a deliberate action of counterfeiters. When an almost identical graphic design features a name that is close to the original. When the price of the product is much lower than the original one and we are not buying from an authorized company store. Rice is the basic source of daily food, but it is also considered sacred – that is why its cultivation is associated with religious holidays and is a kind of ceremony. Due to the lack of sufficient plains, rice is grown in Bali on specially designated “terraces” – on the slopes of hills. It looks really amazing and you can also go for a walk along the paths between the individual plots. If you are lucky, you will then see farmers picking weeds from the fields or tending to their crops. For us, rice terraces are a tourist attraction and for the locals – a source of food and a place of daily work, which we can observe with respect. Interesting facts from Asia - discover them with me. In Thailand , I was particularly enchanted by two famous buildings - the Grand Palace dripping with gold and the intricately decorated Wat Pho temple with its famous golden statue of the reclining Buddha. The reclining Buddha is (watch out!) 15 meters high and 46 meters long! It is difficult to encompass this figure with your eyes and the impressions are incredible. In Malaysia, on the other hand, I had the opportunity to visit the Batu Caves , the largest of which is 100 meters high! I climbed 272 steps to admire it. In the caves, there are, among other things, incredible and very realistic-looking figures of people with the heads of monkeys or crocodiles. Did you know that these caves were discovered a little over 100 years ago? Maybe during my travels around Asia I will also come across unexplored buildings and places? You certainly know that Asian deities often look menacing. I was very impressed by the figure of Lord Murugan , whose huge, golden figure I met for the first time also in Malaysia near the Batu Caves. You must know that as the son of the very warlike goddess Korravai, he was also identified with the god of war - Skanda. Murugan is armed with a spear and looks as if he is guarding the entrance to mysterious caves. He is almost 43 meters high and because he is the tallest statue of a Hindu deity in Malaysia (and the third largest in the world!) he definitely commands respect among tourists. During religious ceremonies, my special attention was drawn to the flower garlands offered to deities and also decorating altars. Plants are inextricably linked to religious worship and many of them are considered magical. Plants are also widely used in Ayurveda , or traditional medicine. If you are here, you know for sure that I built my Orientana natural cosmetics brand on these plants. In the recipes, I use Ayurvedic extracts, oils, extracts, fruits and herbs, which have a great effect on the skin and hair. Returning to flower garlands, I like the ones that use lotuses, marigolds, frangipani flowers, jasmine, ylang-ylang or oleander the most. Five types of sacred leaves, flowers, twigs and fruits are offered in temples during special rituals. Every time I have the opportunity to observe such ceremonies, my eyes absorb hundreds of shades, colors and shapes. I will tell you another interesting fact from Bali ! In many places I have come across small, colorful baskets made of palm leaves filled with flowers, rice, candies and incense. At first I did not know what their function was. It turned out that these beautiful gifts are prepared as an offering to the spirits and are to ensure their favor. In addition, women often place flowers and incense on trays for their deceased ancestors. Practically every place in Bali where local people live is full of such colorful accents.

Asia senses - part 1. I recently met with you live, where I talked about how you can perceive Asia through different senses. I received many messages from you asking me to expand my story , so I decided to describe my impressions right here - on our blog. Asia is a specific continent. When I visited different countries in this region of the world, I had the impression that my senses were sharpening. I enjoyed absorbing the colors, sounds, flavors and scents of colorful and aromatic Asia. I had the opportunity to visit many places on Earth, but it was Asian countries that enchanted me the most with their intensity of the impressions they provided. Have you ever wondered why Orientana cosmetics have multi-colored packaging ? It's our trademark! In Asia, the abundance of juicy colors around us constantly surprises the eyes. The streets in Asian cities shimmer with colors. Even poor women living in slums wear fabulously colorful saris . An interesting fact is that a sari requires up to 5-6 meters of fabric, which is not sewn or fastened with safety pins - this is an illegal practice that makes this traditional outfit "unclean". Bright red saris decorated with metallic thread are one of the favorite patterns of brides. In western India, saris are finished with patterns referring to paintings in temples. Each region has its favorite patterns and colors, which are visible throughout the subcontinent. In addition to clothes , the stalls with exotic fruits, vegetables and spices also attract attention on Asian streets. You will find there sunny yellow mangoes, pineapples or bananas, intensely orange peaches, tangerines, papayas and turmeric, pink lychees or dragon fruits and purple mangosteens. Right next to them will be green amla fruits, prickly durians, coconuts, cherries, strawberries, watermelons or rambutans with skin in shades of yellow, red or pink and many other delicacies in all colors of the rainbow. Can you imagine that? Following the sense of sight, it is also worth paying attention to the architecture. While in Europe, subdued shades of buildings or temples and their simpler forms reign supreme, Asia definitely stands out with its richness of colors and variety of shapes. My attention was drawn to the Sikh temples called gurudwaras. The beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar dates back to the late 16th century and is built of marble, copper, and gold. The connection between Hindu and Islamic architecture is clearly visible here. It was destroyed many times, but each time it was rebuilt even more beautiful. I was incredibly impressed by the fact that the dome of the temple, which weighs about 750 kg, was made of pure gold! If you have the opportunity to visit this place, take a look at the ceiling from the inside, which is richly decorated with gold and precious stones. You will not see such splendor as in Asian temples anywhere else in the world.
