The highest quality oil comes from white sandalwood (Santalum album), which must be at least 15 to 20 years old for its wood to contain sufficient aromatic oils. What does sandalwood look like? Sandalwood, especially the species Santalum album (white sandalwood), is a medium-sized, evergreen tree with a distinctive appearance. It grows to a height of 4–10 meters.
